Robbers loot house in Mahottari; beat resisting family, neighbours

KATHMANDU: At least five persons were beaten and injured by an armed group who robbed a house in Sonama Rural Municipality-3 in Mahottari district last night.

Mahottari District Police Office (DPO) has identified the injured as Lalin Yadav, Sanjeev Yadav and Surendra Yadav. However, Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS) has reported of two others — Satya Narayan Yadav and Chandra Raya Yadav— who were also beaten during the robbery.

Lalin is said to have sustained injuries on his head while Sanjeev on his leg.

According to Spokesperson at Mahottari District Police Office, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Khagendra Bahadur Khadka, a group of 12 to 13 persons entered in the house belonging to one Lalin Yadav at Khakhana at around 1:00 am today.  DSP Khadka assumed that the group had used a metal tool to open the door latched from inside by climbing up the ventilator over the door.  As soon as they entered the house, they allegedly took control of Yadav family. The robbers armed with homemade weapons and explosives beat Yadav and his neighbours who had reached to help Yadav on his call for help added DSP Khadka.

Two teams of police deployed from Raghunathpur-based police post and Gaushala-based Area Police Office had reached the incident site for the investigation, informed police.

Police informed that the robbers made off with five tolas of gold and silver jewellery, 10 units of sari and three sets of mobile phone. He said the family of victims has claimed that the robbers made off with Rs 200,000 cash. However, the RSS has reported the robbery of property worth Rs 700,000 in total.

The robbers reportedly headed in northward direction after looting the house, police informed.

The house locates at the distance of around five kilometres north from the Indian border.

Meanwhile, the investigation into the case is underway, said police.
