BAITADI: A woman was killed and her husband injured after being hit by a falling rock in Sunarya Rural Municipality of Baitadi district on Monday evening.

Ward member of Sunarya Rural Municipality-4, Hari Singh Mahara identified the deceased as local resident Raju Mahara (33), and the injured as Ram Singh Mahara.

Mahara couple were extracting rocks from a quarry in the locality to build their house when suddenly a large boulder shifted and hit them as it slid down, killing Raju on the spot and injuring Ram Singh, at around 5:00 pm yesterday, according to police.

The body of the woman remained pressed against the rocks for three hours. The body was pulled out from the quarry with the help of locals at 8:00 pm, ward member Mahara was quoted in Rastriya Samachar Samiti as saying.
