Royal appointees’ list sought

Kathmandu, May 11:

The Ministry of Education and Sports (MoES) yesterday sent details of at least 20 employees, who were appointed after October 4, 2002, to the Cabinet Secretariat.

The list comprises people who were appointed by the royal regime at the Janak Sikshya Samagri Kendra (JSSK), Department of Education, Teachers’ Service Commission, Sports Council and the TU Service Commission.

On Sunday, the Cabinet had decided that all the political appointments made in government-owned corporations, committees, development committees, authorities, councils and companies through ministerial-level and Cabinet decisions after October 4, 2002 will be cancelled automatically. Senior government employees will look after the vacant posts until further notice, the cabinet had said.

“The political appointments in the education sector, including the appointments of VCs in universities, has created confusion. With the objective of clearing the confusion, the Education ministry has sent the details of about 24 political appointments made after October 4, 2002 to the Cabinet Secretariat,” said an official at the ministry, seeking anonymity.

Details were not sought from the Tribhuvan University (TU) and Mahendra Sanskrit University (MSU) as they are autonomous bodies.
