RPP-N candidate shot dead

Nawalparasi, April 18:

An unidentified gang this morning shot dead Rudra Bahadur Singh Rajput, 70, who had contested the April 10 election in Nawalparasi Constituency No 4 from the Rastriya Prajatantra

Party-Nepal (RPP-N).

“The gang fired at Rajput at his home at Parasi, the district headquarters of Nawalparasi at 6:15 am,” the police said, adding: “Rajput had sustained a bullet injury on his stomach and died while being rushed to hospital.”

The family members did not inform the police about the incident immediately but rushed him to the hospital, SP at Nawalparsi District Police Office, Sushil Kumar Bhandari said, adding:

“All the family members went to the hospital so the police was not able to carry out a preliminary examination of the crime scene.”

The police was informed about the incident only 90 minutes after the incident. No one has owned up the incident yet.

“Investigation is underway,” SP Bhandari said without further elaborating citing pending investigation. The Rajput family rushed him in an ambulance even without informing the neighbours or police, so the incident is suspicious, a neighbour said adding that instead of rushing him to a nearby hospital for first-aid he was taken to a hospital further from the location.

“The incident occurred all of a sudden and we rushed him to the hospital in Butwal without even taking time to inform the police,” Rajput’s daughter Bimala said.

This was not the first time Rajput came under attack. He was attacked prior to the April 10 election at Sunwal and was injured and taking rest in his house.

The Nawalparasi chapter of the RPP-N condemned the incident in a press statement issued today.
