RPP to limit authority of Chairman

KATHMANDU: Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) is set to limit the authority of its Chairman. The party central council meeting scheduled for May 21-23 in Birgunj is preparing to take a decision to that end, it has been learnt.

The party's new statute will remove the provision of nominating entire office bearers by the chairperson and introduce a provision giving power to the chair to nominate only 50 %, shared party Spokesperson Bhuwan Pathak.

Likewise, the new proposal will slash the chairperson's authority to nominate only 25 percent of total central members from 40 percent earlier. The designation of assistant general secretary and assistant spokesperson in the structure will be removed.

The new statute of the party has provisioned to elect 50 percent members in each unit of the party ward committee, town committee, metropolitan committee, regional committee and district committee.

In the meeting to be attended by around 500 representatives, RPP Chairperson Kamal Thapa is set to present a political working paper, while General Secretary Rajendra Lingden will present an action plan for the strengthening of organisational base.
