Rupandehi declared ODF district

Bhairahawa, December 21

Rupandehi was declared as the 61st open-defaecation-free district in the country amidst a programme in Lumbini today.

The announcement was made amidst a programme in the presence of provincial government spokesperson and Physical Infrastructure Development Minister Baijanath Chaudhary, who unveiled an ODF monument.

“Along with the political change and the increase in public awareness, people have now more expectation than in the past. So, it’s time for us to work towards meeting people’s expectation rather than convincing households to build latrines,” he said.

On the occasion, social mobiliser Arjun Belbase praised the role of the community police in their campaign to ensure construction of latrines. There are 163,835 latrines in the district.

Tilottama Municipality Mayor Basudev Ghimire, Butwal Sub-metropolis Deputy Mayor Goma Acharya, Chief District Officer Udaya Bahadur Rana Magar had also spoken on the occasion.
