Russia appreciates ongoing peace bid

Kathmandu, January 17:

Russian ambassador to Nepal, Andrey L Trofimov, today said the peace process has opened an avenue for cooperation between Nepal and Russia in the field of science, technology and trade.

Speaking at a programme organised by the Nepal Council of World Affairs (NCWA) to mark the golden jubilee of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Russia and Nepal, the ambassador said Russia can be a very good market for Nepali carpets, herbs and garments.

“Russia and Nepal can also work together in the field of tourism, information and culture.”

Nilambar Acharya, a former minister, said, “Russian cooperation can be fruitful for harnessing our natural resources,” he said.

Deepak Gyawali, another former minister, lauded Russian contribution for the development of science and technology in Nepal.

“Every year 6,000 Nepali students go to Russia to pursue higher studies,” he said.

The ambassador also read out a letter sent by the Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs, which stated that the Interim Constitution will pave the way for Constituent Assembly polls and lead to a peaceful and prosperous Nepal.
