Salt Trading, Himalayan Food GMs locked up

BIRATNAGAR: All Nepal Industry Workers' Union (ANIWU) on Thursday locked up Sabal Rijal, General Manager, Salt Trading Corporation, Zonal Office and Dinesh Chandra Sharma, GM, Himalayan Food and Packaging Industry, accusing the duo of not fulfilling their demand.

The GMs were locked in their offices following a meeting with the workers that ended inconclusively at 2 pm. The employees have been demanding appointment letters, provident fund and minimum wage fixed by the government. The management had agreed to fulfil their 13-point demand six months back.

The unions' act has halted the works at the two companies. Female workers have also been staging a sit-in at the main gate of the offices.

Sagar Rai, central member, ANIWU, said their protest would continue until their demands were fulfilled. "The companies should be ready to face any risk if they do not consider our demands," Rai warned.

Meanwhile, GM Rijal said, "We have addressed the demands of the workers. I cannot do anything about their additional demands." He said the workers' representatives had misbehaved.
