Maoists attack Save the Children's Chautara office

MELAMCHI: Cadres of the CPN-Maoist led by Netra Bikram Chand attacked the office of Save the Children at Chautara, on Monday night.

A group of six persons threw petrol-filled plastic bottles at the office. A vehicle parked on the office premises also suffered minor damages, according to police.

Issuing a statement, the Maoist party justified the attack saying it was compelled to attack the office as NGOs, involved in reconstruction and relief distribution after Gorkha earthquake, started involving in profit-making rather than providing services.

"The party attacked the office after the low-quality relief materials distributed by it compelled people to buy goods from certain shops. They had to pay double the amount and lack of transparency in their logs led to the outburst," the statement read.
