SC fiat on stay order

Kathmandu, December 11:

The Supreme Court today declined to issue stay order against the tax imposed on cinema halls.

A division bench of Justices Ram Prasad Shrestha, Damodar Prasad Sharma and Rajendra Prasad Koirala issued the order following the hearing carried out today.

The bench, however, placed the issue in the priority list for its hearing with priority order. On November 16, eight cinema hall owners moved the Supreme Court challenging the decision of the government to collect film development charge from the cinema halls.

Triratna Manandhar, the owner of Aasta Narayan Pictures; Mohan Saffaf of Bishwo Jyoti; Nakim Uddin of Vision Quest; Rajendra Shakya of Gun Cinema; Pradip Kumar Udaya of Butwal Chalchitra Mandir; Hari Prasad Dwa of Kalika Chalchitra Mandir; Kishor Shaha Teli of Girija Chalchitra have jointly moved the apex court.
