SC order stumbling block to statute, concludes UCPN-M

KATHMANDU: Unified CPN-Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal said his party would give continuity to the ongoing talks among the major political parties and forward the constitution writing process to wipe out the uncertainty that has appeared following the Supreme Court verdict.

The UCPN-Maoist concluded that the SC verdict regarding the 16-point-agreement signed by major political parties had not only created uncertainty in the constitution writing process, but also created obstacles on it.

A meeting of the party’s office bearers held at the party Chairman Dahal's residence in Lazimpat today concluded that the SC interference on political issues could disturb the constitution writing process, said UCPN-Maoist Vice-Chairman Narayan Kaji Shrestha.

“We have decided to move ahead carefully by holding talks among the political parties,” he added.

It is learnt that the four major political parties are likely to file a review petition to correct the SC decision.

“We also held talks on the issues regarding formation of a high-level Reconstruction Authority, the International Conference on Nepal's Reconstruction and other contemporary issues,” Shrestha said.
