School principal-led mob thrashes Mugu DEO

MUGU: An angry school principal thrashed Mugu's District Education officer, Jawahar Lal Hamal, last night.

Murma-based Nepal Rastriya Secondary School's Principal, Bikram Bahadur Shahi, attacked Hamal at the latter's residence.

Locals of Murma and the School Management Committee members had sent a written application to DEO Hamal charging Principal Shahi of financial irregularities in school and asking for arrangement of an official to oversee the school's financial affairs.

DEO Hamal had responded to the letter by assigning a for overseeing the management of school's account.

After that, the enraged and inebriated Principal took along with him a gang of six to seven men to attack the DEO.

Meanwhile, police arrested Shahi from his house in Gamgadhi following the incident the same night.

A complaint has been filed with the anti-graft body, Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA), with accusations that the Principal had embezzled teachers' allowance and budget allocated for lunch and construction among other subjects.

Last year, Shahi had withdrawn money from a different person's account at the Mugu-based Rastriya Banijya Bank (RBB) in cahoots with employees of the bank.
