School shut for three days

CHARIKOT: Birendra Secondary School in Dolakha, which was shut after the UCPN-Maoist cadres thrashed two teachers on Monday, remained closed today as well.

Citing security reasons, the teachers of the school approached the district headquarters on the same day. Twelve teachers and a peon presented themselves to the District Education Office today. Among 15 teachers, two are attending a training while one is on leave.

The teachers today pleaded to the District Police Office for bringing the guilty to book. They also demanded security to run the school.

Meanwhile, a meeting held between the local administration and the teachers ended inconclusively, as the agitating teachers stuck to their demands.

“We want a guarantee of security from authorities to return to the VDC,” the teachers said. District

Teachers’ Union warned of shutting down all the schools in the district beginning May 15 if their demands were not fulfilled.

Meanwhile, educational institutions remained closed for the seventh consecutive day in Saptari today to protest the smearing of tar on the District Education Officer on May 6. Students had smeared DEO’s face with tar accusing him of sleeping at home during the office hours.

The teachers in the district have been demanding action against the culprits. The Nepal Teachers’ Union has alleged that Madhesi Janaadhikar Forum secretary Bhogendra Chaudhari and TMDP leader Bijaya Yadav were also involved in the incident.
