School vandalised over recruitment row

GAIGHAT: Locals of Rampur Thoksila area vandalised Baljyoti Primary School building accusing irregularity in the selection of a teacher for a relief quota.

The locals claimed that Principal Kalpana Katawal and representative of District Education Office Raj Kumar Ojha selected Urmila Koirala instead of Tika Kathiwada for the post. According to the locals, Tika had secured the highest score in the examination administered for the selection. The irate villagers vandalised the school building when the administration denied to re-administer the test.

A group of about fifty led by the School Management Committee chairman Bal Bahadur Niraula vandalised the school building, Principal Katawal said.Earlier the locals had gheraoed the District Education Office demanding cancellation of the exam.

Katawal, however, claimed that there was not irregularity in the selection process. She said,” We appointed Koirala, the highest scorer in the test, as per the Education Act.”
