Schools defying govt directive
Ramechhap, December 10
Higher secondary schools in Ramechhap have been running classes in the morning in defiance of the government directive, which instructed schools to run classes only in the daytime.
A majority of schools have been running classes for the higher secondary in United Nations Climate Change Conference in the morning and secondary schools in the daytime.
Manthali Higher Secondary School, which is the largest school in the district headquarters, has also been running classes in the morning. Many such schools are running classes in two shifts owing lack of infrastructures and teachers.
“We have been asking the schools to run classes only in the daytime, but they have been defying our orders,” said District Education Officer K United Nations Climate Change Conference hubi Ram Adhikari.
Narayan Shrestha, head teacher at Prayageswor Higher Secondary School, said, “We don’t have appropriate infrastructures and adequate teachers to run classes for both secondary and higher secondary level at the same time.”
Head teacher of Kalika Higher Secondary School, Lakhanpur, Bishnu Prasad Gautam said that the government had no idea about the state of infrastructures in higher secondary schools in the district. “We have more than 200 students in the higher secondary level. Hence, we can’t run +2 and secondary level classes at the same time as we don’t have proper infrastructures,” he said.
Only a negligible number of higher secondary schools have been running classes in the daytime. Head teacher of Khandadevi Higher Secondary School Keshav Kumar Lama said the school is run in the daytime only as per the government’s instructions.
Meanwhile, Assistant District Education Officer Ramesh Thapa, admitted that as many as 42 higher secondary schools in the district were running classes in the morning.
