Schools shut due to heat

Hetauda, June 17

Two local levels in Makawanpur declared five-day holiday in private and community schools starting today, keeping in mind the soaring mercury in the district.

Schools in Hetauda sub-metropolis and Manahari Rural Municipality have declared holiday till Friday due to the scorching heat. Sub-metropolis Mayor Hari Bahadur Mahat said the five-day holiday would be adjusted from summer holidays.

With the temperature rising, an emergency meeting of the education committee of Manahari Rural Municipality announced five-day holiday effective from today.

Soaring heat was affecting teaching-learning activities as students started falling unconscious due to the heat. The decision to grant the holiday was taken after complaints from guardians.

According to Manahari Village Education Committee, the holiday can be extended if necessary. The mercury level in Hetauda and other areas has been increasing for the past week.
