Schools sans academic planner

Rajbiraj, July 24

Months after the new academic session stared, majority of local bodies in Saptari, including district headquarters Rajbiraj, are yet to publish their academic calendar.

“Of the total 18 local bodies, only Surunga and Khadak municipalities and Bishnupur, Tirahut, Agnisair Krishnasabaran and Tilathi Koiladi rural municipalities have managed to prepare their academic calendar so far,” said RP Society Chair Dev Kumar Yadav, adding that lack of academic calendar had created confusion regarding dates of exams, holidays, etc. in schools.

Narendra Memorial Janata Secondary School Principal Khilanath Gautam said, “Prior to local levels assuming authority, schools in the district, in coordination with the District Education Office, used to conduct exams and grant holidays. The dates of exams and holidays would be the same for all schools in the entire district then, but the situation is no longer so in the absence of an academic calendar,” he said.

Chiefs of local bodies

admitted that the academic calendar was long overdue. “It’s true that there has been a in preparing the academic calendar due to our busy schedule at the end of the fiscal,” Rajbiraj Municipality Mayor Shambhu Prasad Yadav said, adding, his municipality was preparing to bring out the calendar by mid-August.

There are a total of 412 schools in Saptari, including 42 in Rajbiraj Municipality.
