Security beefed up at Tatopani
Sindhupalchowk, March 8:
In a bid to prevent anti-China protests ahead of the 50th anniversary of Dalai Lama’s exile, security at Tatopani check point in Sindhupalchowk district has been beefed up.
A team led by Pramod Kharel, DSP at Sindhupalchowk District Police Office reached Barhabise today. The team will stay in Barhabise till March 10, police inspector Hari Krishna Khatri said. The DPO has directed all the police units along the Araniko highway to stay on alert, police source said, adding, the chances of Tibetans staging demonstrations from Barhabise to Nepal-China border are high.The administrator of Khasa of China during a bilateral meeting at Chautara yesterday also urged CDO and DSP not to allow any anti-China activities across the border, the source said.
Security issues were discussed in the meeting, CDO, Bhanubhakta Pokharel said. In addition to police, the armed police will also be deployed to prevent the chances of protest. The home ministry and police headquarters have also directed the district based security mechanism to stay on high alert.
