Security upped in Singha Durbar

KATHMANDU: Government employees and service-seekers visiting Singha Durbar were made to undergo rigorous security checks on Sunday.

When this correspondent reached the main entrance gate of Singha Durbar at around 1:00pm, there were at least 100 motorbikes and four-wheelers queuing up for their turn to be screened.

Police searched bags of bikers, commuters and visitors. It was an unusual sight at Singha Durbar gate, as police hadn’t conducted searches on this scale in recent past.

Security at Singha Durbar is operated manually by police personnel, without vehicle scanners at entrance gates.

Only a few CCTV cameras have been installed there.
