Kathmandu: Senior journalist and press freedom fighter Ram Gopal Baishya (74) has passed away at last night.

Baishya died of prostate cancer at 11:00 pm yesterday.

Starting his journalistic career from Bardiya in 2026 BS, Baishya worked for Kathmandu-based Chetana, Rastra Dhowni and Rastra Pukar weeklies.

For the last two and a half decades, Baishya was also the Editor and Publisher of Shankanath Weekly published from Banke.

He is survived by wife, six sons and a daughter.

Meanwhile, the Federation of Nepalis Journalist (FNJ) has expressed sorrow over the demise of senior journalist Baishya.

The FNJ has said that the Nepali journalism sector has lost an experienced and fearless journalist, and has expressed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family members.
