CHITWAN, JULY 17

Chitwan police have arrested seven employees of Nepal Electricity Authority's Bharatpur Distribution Centre, for beating up Rastriya Samachar Samiti Chitwan correspondent Krishna Acharya.

Acharya was allegedly thrashed by the NEA employees under the influence of alcohol when the former had reached the NEA office to cover news about a booze party being reportedly organised on the premises of the NEA office on Friday.

The arrestees are electrical supervisors at the centre Aananda Bahadur Kunwar and Dibachha Shah, senior meter reader Hemanta Dhakal, electrician Tulasi Devkota, accountant Manjil Man Shrestha, meter reader Hemshankar Chaudhary and accountant Hari Paudel.

A case against the arrestees would be filed, said Narahari Adhikari, spokesperson for the district police office. Acharya sustained hand injuries and his clothes were torn in the incident, said the police. The attackers had also seized two mobile phones belonging to Acharya.
