Seven provisions go from parties’ bill

The Parliamentary State Affairs Committee (SAC) today decided to retain the provision in the political party related bill that seeks the parties to produce 10,000 signatures of its voters while registering the party.

However, it removed seven provisions.

The provision proscribing political parties to seek donations from “individual, organisation, international agencies and government” has been removed. Also gone is the provision, which barred the parties from call bandhs.

SAC also removed the provision that barred parties from organising protest programmes and rallies in the prohibited places and the provision of the local government officer deciding the places for the parties to organise programmes.

Also removed was the provision that had prohibited the parties from creating obstructions in the means of transport, and vandalising public and people’s properties while launching any protest.

It also removed the provision that barred the parties from using minor in rallies and protest programmes, and the provision that required the party to receive at least one per cent of total vote in general elections to become eligible for receiving grant provided by the government. It also removed the provision requiring partier to make their annual reports public.
