Sharma for holding party convention

Kathmandu, October 28:

Rabindra Nath Sharma, the newly elected chairman of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP-Sharma), will formally assuming the supreme post of his party tomorrow. Sharma, who has been unanimously elected as the party chairman yesterday, said his first commitment would be to convene the party’s convention by March next year that would elect a new party leadership.

Kamal Thapa, who played a major role in splitting the RPP, stepped down from the party chairman on Friday “considering the current circumstances.” The party’s central committee meeting tomorrow is also expected to discuss the current political situation, including the ongoing talks between the seven-party alliance and the Maoists. A party source conceded that the party is likely to float its stance on monarchy “soon”.
