Koirala stresses need to change NC leadership

Biratnagar, May 14

Nepali Congress leader Shekhar Koirala today said his party should change its leadership to save the party.

Speaking at a programme organised by Nepal Press Union Morang in Biratnagar, Koirala claimed that his party would not be able to take momentum until its leadership was changed. He added that the party had suffered debacle in the polls due to the leadership’s weak performance. “The party has to get rid of Deuba’s leadership at any cost”, he stated.

Koirala reiterated that his party would continue to weaken as long as Deuba stayed at the party’s helm. He stressed the need to hold general convention even if it required changing the party’s statute.

Koirala accused party President Sher Bahadur Deuba of trying to concentrate power on himself and imposing authoritarianism in the party. He charged that Deuba was working to make a few people strong, not the party. Stating that the NC had become weakest in its history, Koirala asked the party leadership not to violate the party’s statute and established norms.
