Shelters for victims

SINDHULIMADI: Youth Group Volunteer for Change, Kathmandu, has started to build temporary shelters for quake victims at Bhimeshwor VDC in Sindhuli from this week. The youth volunteer group has been building shelters for the Dalit and Hayu communities at the VDC. The devastating earthquake of April 25 and subsequent aftershocks had completely destroyed the settlements at Ratmata of the VDC. The volunteer group will provide zinc sheets, rods, and technical assistance to victims. Saurav Dhakal, participant in the campaign, informed that as many as 10 toilets and 42 solar panels along with temporary shelters would be constructed for tremor victims. He said that Tale Talk Private Limited, a mobile production company, would help in the same. “Construction of temporary shelters will be completed within a week,” he added.

Landslip claims two

TANSEN: A couple was buried to death in a landslide inside a van at Dobhan VDC in Palpa along the Siddhartha Highway on Wednesday evening. The van was en route to Butwal from Palpa. The landslip claimed the lives of Prof Yashoda Koacher and her husband Prof TDS Koacher, said District Police Office, Palpa. The couple taught at Lumbini Medical College, Palpa. Yashoda was a gynaecologist whereas TDS was an optician. Dr Jamir Akhtar Mikrani and Dr Pratik, who were with the couple in the van, were rescued alive 20 minutes after the incident with the help of a dozer from Butwal. They are undergoing treatment at Lumbini City Hospital in Butwal. The landslide obstructed vehicular movement. Efforts to clear the debris are under way, said DSP Suman Kumar Timalsina.
