Deuba accuses govt of moving arbitrarily

BANEPA: Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba has accused the government of going ahead in its own way without consulting the opposition party.

Addressing a programme after laying the foundation stone of the Nepali Congress Kavrepalanchok district committee office on the occasion of the 93rd birth anniversary of the former Prime Minister and party President late Girija Prasad Koirala in Banepa today, he said the government was moving ahead in an arbitrary manner.

"The responsibility of implementing the Constitution and managing shelters for the earthquake survivors has come on the shoulders of the Nepali Congress," he said, adding the government had done so little to alleviate the hardships of the earthquake-affected people neither during the winter and nor until the monsoon now.

Deuba meanwhile claimed that the ruling CPN-UML did not want to hold the local body elections and demanded that the commission formed to fix structure of local bodies should come up with its report within August.

He also lambasted the government for not making any preparation for the various elections including the provincial and others, cautioning that the country would yet again go into crisis if the Constitution was not implemented on time.

Party Treasurer Sita Devi Yadav challenged Prime Minister Oli to live in a makeshift hut one day to experience for himself the difficulties the earthquake survivors had been facing.

Lawmakers Ram Sharan Mahat, Kanchan Chandra Bade and Tirtha Lama; former lawmaker Shiva Prasad Humagain; NC Kavrepalanchok district president Madhu Acahrya, vice-president Achyut Paudel, among other leaders had also spoken at the function.

The NC Kavrepalanchok is constructing the office building at a cost of Rs 30 million.
