Phidim, March 9:
The people of Phidim have been facing an acute shortage of water ever since public taps started running dry four days back.
The Phidim drinking water and cleaning consumers’ committee said that supply of water was disrupted because Naumule, the source of water, had dried up and a water tank had leaked.
Locals complained that they had to queue up for hours at spouts in the bazaar and water tanks at neighbouring areas to collect water.
Earlier, water used to be supplied in Phidim one hour each in the morning and in the evening from a reservoir that could store 263,000 litres of water. An employee of the drinking water office in Paanchthar, Ram Rajbhandari, said there was no way to meet the daily water requirements of the locals at present.
