Silgadi remains tense over road project dispute

Dipayal, June 16

Tension has been running high in Silgadi for the last two days due to dispute over a road project.

On Monday CPN-UML district Chairman Chakra Malla, residents at Khatiwada VDC and Nepali Congress Village Unit Committee President Rajendra Khadka exchanged blows over the road project.

Police took Khadka under control after Malla filed a case against Khadka in District Police Office. Locals in Khatiwada VDC and NC cadres have been chanting slogans demanding Khadka’s release at the district administration and police office, while UML leaders and cadres demanded action against the culprits.

It is said that NC leaders and cadres showed dissatisfaction after Local Development Officer Basu Dev Regmi agreed to the project under pressure from the UML. The LDO could not attend office today after the dispute ran high.

Doti Chief District Officer Keshab Prasad Acharya said that LDO Regmi had gone to a safer place due to security reasons.

Service seekers have been facing difficulties getting their works done after the LDO stayed away from office. Day-to-day activities have come to a grinding halt at the DDC office for the last two days.

Meanwhile, SP Dilli Raj Bista of DPO said that a case was filed against Khadka under the public offence act after a multi-party meeting could not reach a decision on Khadka’s release.

It is said that Rs 7 lakh was allocated for the road project under the Constituency Development Programme that connects the district headquarters with Khatiwada VDC.
