Silver, copper coins dating back to 13th century recovered

DHAMBOJI, BARDIYA: Silver and copper coins dating back to the 13th and 17th centuries have been found while digging a road at Barbardiya Municipality-6 in Bardiya district.

The recovered coins include five silver coins weighing 54 milligrams and 200 copper coins weighing seven kilograms, said Deputy Superintendent of Police Madanjit Mahara. They were found inside a clay pot three feet below the ground.

Archeologists said, the coins could have been hidden under the ground for fear of robbery during the Mugal rule.

The recovered coins have been sent to the Department of Archeology for study, said police.
