Siraha-based theft ring busted, members made public

Police arrested a person for his involvement in stealing goods from a mobile shop and two others who had bought the stolen goods at Golbazaar Municipality in Siraha today.

Police made the trio public at a press meet organised in Siraha District Police Office. The arrested have been identified as Rameshwor Safi, 17, Bindu Kumar Mahato, 36, and his brother Arun Kumar Mahato, 32, of Arna Rural Municipality.

Police said Safi had stolen the goods and the Mahato duo had bought them at cheap rates.

Police seized 24 mobile sets, Rs 145,500 in cash and equipment used for stealing the goods from Safi’s house.

Safi had hidden the materials in a ditch at his house, said police.

Similarly, police recovered four mobile sets, recharge cards worth Rs 65,850 and Rs 14,150 cash from the shop belonging to Bindu. Likewise, police seized recharge cards worth Rs 3,000 from a shop belonging to Arun, said police.

Police said the goods were stolen from Raju Enterprises Mobile Shop operated by a local, Dukhi Sah, on September 8.

Police said further investigation into the incident was under way.

Safi’s brother Laxman Safi, who was also involved in the theft, is on the run and police are searching for him.
