Six bills endorsed by HoR, one by upper house
Kathmandu, September 14
The House of Representatives today endorsed six bills and National Assembly one bill related to fundamental rights.
The HoR passed safe motherhood and reproductive health bill, right to employment bill, consumer protection bill, right to food bill, right to housing bill and right to land bill with majority. The National Assembly passed protection of crime victims bill unanimously. The HoR will send the bills it passed to the National Assembly for endorsement and vice-versa.
The government needs to ensure that bills related to the enjoyment of fundamental rights are passed by September 18 as per the three-year deadline served by the constitution.
This means the Parliament has just four days left to endorse all bills related to fundamental rights. The six bills passed by the HoR today will be sent to the National Assembly for endorsement.
Meanwhile, Chairperson of State Affairs and Good Governance Committee Mina Pandey presented two bills related to fundamental rights — right to privacy bill and anti-caste discrimination and untouchability bill — in the HoR.
The lower house has already received environment protection bill and bill on right of people with disabilities.
The National Assembly also passed convention for the unification of certain rules for international carriage by air.
The proposal was presented by Minister of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Rabindra Adhikari in the House.
