Only six female candidates in Jhapa

Out of 141 candidates who have filed nomination for provincial and parliamentary polls slated for December 7, there are only six women candidates in Jhapa.

CPN-UML leader Pabitra Niraula and Nepal Janata Party’s Sujata Oli are the parliamentary candidates from constituencies 2 and 3 in Jhapa respectively. Similarly, for the provincial assembly, Rastriya Janata Party-Nepal’s Rama Meche is a candidate from Constituency No 1-B and RJP-N’s Nirmala Ekten is for Constituency No 2-A.

Mongol National Organisations’ Satyakala Nembang  is provincial candidate for Constituency No 3-A.  Jammawati Timilisna is an independent candidate in Constituency No 5-A. Major parties, including the NC, UML and Maoist Centre did not field any woman for the provincial seats.

Of the total 141 candidates, 57 are contesting for the parliament while 82 are in the fray for provincial assembly seats. Nineteen independent candidates, seven parliamentary and 12 provincial, have thrown in their hats in the district.
