Dhangadhi, July 16:

“Security personnel of Kailali prison are helping supply drugs to prisoners.”

Six prisoners of the Kailali district prison were beaten up and injured by fellow prisoners following a scuffle this morning, Kailali district prison said.

The injured are: Kabiraj Bohara, Dhan Bahadur Malla, Rajendra Rawat, Gopal Soni, Keshav Karki and Jaya Bahadur Rokaya. Of them, Rokaya and Karki were transferred to Kailali prison from Kanchanpur district prison while the four were transferred from Nepalgunj prison.

The injured claimed that a group of prisoners beat them up after they protested their bringing in drugs in the prison and watching porn movies. “They were viewing a porn movie last night and we tried to stop them. They entered our room today and thrashed us,” prisoner Kabiraj Bohara, who has head injury, said. All the injured have been brought back to the prison after treatment in Seti zonal hospital.

The injured have accused security personnel of the prison of involvement in supplying drugs for prisoners. They also alleged that the security personnel did nothing to stop the scuffle. Jail security has been beefed up following the incident.

Chief District Officer Chhetra Bahadur Bhandary said things were under control and the prison administration was trying to settle the issue.
