Six students hurt in Dhangadhi clash

Dhangadhi, December 25:

Six students were injured as a clash started here today between cadres of the All Nepal National Free Students’ Union (ANNFSU) and Nepal Students’ Union (Democratic).

The clash erupted over the issue of the president of the Free Students’ Union (FSU) at the Kailali Multiple Campus, Yagya Ram Dhungana, allegedly being involved in irregularities. Dhungana was elected by the ANNFSU.

District president of NSU-D Pushpa Shahi, district member Laxman Shahi, campus unit chairperson Indra Prakash Malla, Baburam Acharya of ANNFSU (Integrated), FSU president Dhungana, Bhuvan Rijal and Hemant Regmi were injured in the fracas. Acharya has sustained critical injuries in the nose and eye.

Students of the NSU-D, alleging that FSU president Dhungana was involved in irregularities, staged a press conference in the campus today.

NSU-D district president Shahi alleged that students affiliated to the ANNFSU called in a karateka Janak Swarnakar after the press meet and went on the rampage on campus premises. Enraged NSU (D) students beat up the FSU president and two other students near the CPN (UML) party office.

They also flung a digital camera and a mobile phone of a student, Lokraj Pandey, who returned from a visit of 62 districts after campaigning for democracy. Pandey is a supporter of the NSU-D. The Dhangadhi bazaar and the campus remained tense after the incident.

Meanwhile, several student organisations, issuing separate press releases, condemned Dhungana’s act of hiring the karateka and getting the students beaten up.
