Sleeping couple killed as truck rams into roadside house

UPDATE: The couple who were killed after the Indian truck with registration number UP 57 T 454 crashed into their house were residents of Chisapani Dharapani, Chandragiri Municipality-3 of Kathmandu, where the incident took place earlier this morning, police said.

The Indian truck, laden with bananas, witnessed brake failure while moving uphill towards Kathmandu, slid down before ploughing into the house with its rear,  according to the news bulletin issued by Nepal Police later today.

Raj Kumar Dhakal Khatri (50) died at the Norvic Hospital while his wife Durga succumbed to injuries while being rushed to Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital, police added.

KATHMANDU: Two persons, who were in deep sleep, lost their life after a truck with Indian number plate rammed into a roadside house at Dhalan along the Naubise road-section of Prithvi Highway in Dhading in the wee hours of Sunday morning.

According to Nepal Police, victims are Raj Kumar Khatri Dhakal (45) and his wife Durga (40).

Critically injured in the incident that took place at around 4:45 am, the couple were brought to Norvic Hospital in Kathmandu where they died during the course of treatment, according to police.

Police have taken the truck and its driver in custody.
