Pathalaiya, May 2:

Young Communist League cadres seized 60 tonnes of rice worth Rs 1.2 million from Bara’s Materwa checkpost this morning.

The rice was being smuggled from India’s Achapur to Birgunj. Sources said rice was smuggled on Indian tractors up to Materwa and from there Nepali trucks were to ferry it to different parts of the country.

The source added that security personnel aid smugglers to illegally import food grains and under-quality chemical fertilisers via the checkpoint.
