Snow-capped peaks yet to show up
Pokhara, October 23:
Majestic Himalayan ranges are only 30 km far from the city of Pokhara but fog and mist is likely to spoil the vacation of tourists here as they are not able to view mountains clearly.
It is already late October but Dhaulagiri, Annapurna and Machhapuchhre ranges are not clearly visible.
In the past years there used to be no fog and the views of the mountains used to
be clearer.
Experts blame global warming for this change in weather pattern.
Bishnu Narayan Gurung, chief of Narayani Basin Office, said: “Change in the environment has resulted in changed weather pattern. Hailstorms during October and November used to be quite uncommon but they occur these days.”
Dr Krishna KC, a geologist, said the mountains were not clearly visible because of the prolonged monsoon this year. “Environment change was behind the prolonged and delayed monsoon,” he said.
Scenic view of the mountains is the main attraction for the tourists visiting Pokhara and it has played a great role in enhancement of domestic and international tourism, tourist entrepreneurs here said.
