Socialism-oriented education mantra of new ANNFSU prez

Pokhara, September 27:

Newly-elected president of the All Nepal Free Students’ Union Ram Kumari Jhankri said today her organisation would work to restructure the education sector.

Addressing a press conference here, Jhankri said she would pressure the government to come up with a road map for socialism-oriented education. The ANNFSU chief said she would move ahead, bringing together all leftist students’ organisations. Calling for an end to commercialisation of the education sector, she demanded free education for all. Jhankri blamed the government for allocating a paltry sum for the development of the education.

She said the government should have allocated at least 30 per cent of the annual budget for the development of this sector. The ANNFSU’s national conference has passed a 29-point Pokhara Declaration with the focus on socialism-oriented professional and technical

education.

In the declaration, the students’ body has promised to espouse federalism.

The 29-point declaration has protested criminal activities of CPN (Maoist)-affiliated groups over ANNFSU and UML cadres across the country.

The students’ body has urged the Maoists to return seized property to the rightful owners. It has urged the state to create an environment in which people can live in peace.

The declaration has sought a way out of the ongoing political deadlock and called all concerned to usher the nation on the path of peace and progress. It has called for end to conflicts between people.
