Solid waste management centre in operation in Tanahun

DAMAULI: A solid waste management plant has been brought into service in Aanbukhaireni Rural Municipality-3 of Tanahun district recently.

The waste management plant — built at the cost of Rs 3,000,000 — in Kudule spreads over an area of six ropani and will manage the solid waste collected daily from the market areas of Wards 1-4, according to Executive Officer Durga Thapa, at the rural municipality.

Earlier, the management of solid waste had been a problem due to the lack of a landfill site in the area, however, the rural municipality has started to manage it with the construction of the modern plant that also helps generate income, Gir Bahadur Thapa, Chairperson at the Rural Municipality said. Thapa further elaborated the plan to make organic fertilizer from degradable waste and sell goods like plastic that are re-usable.

According to Chair Thapa, the plant is constructed at the land leased for 10 years at the annual rent of Rs 72,000 and will help establish Aanbukhaireni, a clean, beautiful and prosperous rural municipality.
