Sons oust father over property dispute

Rautahat, July 18

An elderly in Rautahat district took refuge in the District Administration Office seeking justice after he was allegedly chased away from his house by his children.

Eighty-year-old Ram Dhari Das of Gaur municipality-2 met with Chief District Officer Narahari Baral at the DAO on Sunday and expressed his plight. He accused his two sons of torturing him and driving him out of his own house after seizing a plot of land that he owned.

According Das, his two sons seized five kattha land before ousting him from his home. “I had divided two bigaha land between my two sons and us (Das and his wife) many years ago.

I had given them 15 kaththa each and me and my wife each had five kattha in our name. But they wheedled that five kattha land out of me and drove me out of home,” he said, asking the CDO to create an environment for him to return home.

Meanwhile, upon hearing Das’s plight CDO Baral called both his sons to the office and counselled them. “We called his sons, counselled them and sent Das home after the two sons signed an agreement saying that they would take full custody of their father,” said Baral.

The sons, however, said their father had unnecessarily reached the administration office just because they proposed to sell the five kattha land to pay off the loan they had taken for Das’s treatment.
