SPA unfair towards Tarai folk: Yadav
Janakpurdham, January 11:
Madhesi Janadhikar Forum president Upendra Yadav today accused the seven political parties of forging a lopsided 23-point agreement and being unfair towards the Madhes.
Speaking at a programme here of the Madhesi Intellectuals’ Forum, Yadav said, “All the amendments to the statute by the government have only put the Madhesis at a disadvantage.” He said that despite the 22-agreement between the forum and the government, the government had only specified a federal democratic republic.
He expressed doubt on whether the seven parties would really hold the CA polls. Yadav also said that unless Madhesis are given proportional representation on the basis of their population, calling for the creation of a new Nepal will be meaningless.
Meanwhile, chairman of the Tarai-Madhes Loktantrik Party (TMLP) Mahanta Thakur has urged the government to “depute only Madhesi staffers in government offices in the Tarai.”
Thakur was speaking at a programme of the TMLP in Gaur today.
Madhes should be made an integrated autonomous region with the right to self-determination, Thakur further said.
Minister without portfolio Sujata Koirala said in Biratnagar today that the Nepali Congress will do its best to resolve the issues of Madhes. Talking to reporters at Biratnagar airport, Koirala said she will personally make all possible efforts to resolve the Madhes crisis.
Koirala added that it was necessary to tackle the Madhes crisis to make the constituent assembly polls successful.
