SPA working beyond Jana Andolan II mandate: Rana

Nepalgunj, January 22:

Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) chairman Pashupati SJB Rana today blamed the seven-party alliance, the government and the parliament of engaging in power-sharing and functioning beyond the mandate of Jana Andolan II.

It is the people who should be deciding on the fate of monarchy, he said while speaking to journalists here,

The Jana Andolan II had given the mandate of reinstating peace, holding election to a constituent assembly and managing the transitional phase in the country, he said while suggesting the government to immediately hold talks with agitating forces, restore peace and create an environment conducive for holding free and fair Constituent Assembly election.

The government should not neglect the Madhes problem because it is crucial to make the Constituent Assembly polls a success, he said.

A free and fair CA polls is still elusive because the government has not been able to address the issues raised by the dissident groups across the nation, he said while lauding the efforts made to hold talks with the agitating forces in Tarai.

He said the issues being raised in the Madhes region were spontaneous and genuinely political and that they should be respected and solved immediately by holding meaningful talks. “Efforts should be made to solve the problems in totality instead to trying to deal with them in instalment,” he added.

He was of the view that the time was not ripe enough to debate about the integration of Maoist People’s Liberation Army soldiers into the Nepal Army. “It is not yet time to discuss about army integration. The issue should be dealt with after the CA polls and Maoists themselves are not for immediate integration of the soldiers,” he said.

Former prime minister and RPP leader Lokendra Bahadur Chand said that the king and palace were not the power centres in the country.

“The king and palace cannot be taken as power centres now and they cannot disrupt the CA polls,” he said and ruled out any chance of coup.

He denied to comment on whether the king would easily abdicate after the CA polls. He was of the view that the palace has not sought his support on any issue as of now.

He said he was more inclined to literature these days than

politics.
