Speaker returns home after attending IPU meet

Kathmandu, March 26

Speaker Onsari Gharti yesterday returned home after attending the 134th conference of the Inter-Parliamentary Union held in Lusaka, the capital of Zambia.

Speaking to journalists at Tribhuvan International Airport, Speaker Gharti  said she articulated her views focusing on democracy and youth at the conference. She said she also highlighted the topics, including fundamental rights, proportional and inclusive principles as well as other major provisions enshrined in the Constitution of Nepal. Speaker Gharti said she had presented views on terrorism, development and protection of archaeological heritage in Nepal. She said the Nepali delegation held meetings with delegations from the UK, Japan and other countries during the conference and discussed matters of mutual interest. As many as 135 countries had participated in the conference.

She said issues including the formulation of parliamentary regulations be resolved through a meeting of the Parliament and in consultation with political parties after the PM returns home from China visit.
