Kathmandu, January 26:
The Special Court today imposed a bail of Rs 4 million on Deepak Bhatta, son of the suspended managing director of government-owned Agricultural Equipment Company (AEC), Chaturbhuj Bhatta. It also issued notices to Chaturbhuj to attend the court to face corruption charges filed by the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) recently.
Deepak was sent to jail as he could not furnish the bail amount today. The CIAA accused the AEC’s managing director and his son of corruption while signing an agreement to import chemical fertilizers from an Israeli company called Clan Port International.
The anti-graft body accused them of irregularities to the tune of Rs 120 million while agreeing to import 12,500 metric tonnes of fertilizers three years ago.
The CIAA has sought 11 years jail term for Chaturbhuj and eight years for Deepak while filing the charge-sheet before the Special Court.
