KATHMANDU, AUGUST 5

The Minimum Wage Fixation Committee has urged the government to announce and implement a special relief package targeting working journalists affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Committee's board meeting chaired by its President Rajendra Aryal today expressed serious concern about several media houses for not paying working journalists, depriving them of facilities, transferring journalists to inconvenient places and laying off journalists during the adverse situation of the pandemic.

The meeting also urged the sides concerned to immediately stop such activities as working journalists were facing double whammy of economic as well as mental torture due to such activities.

The Committee decided to draw the attention of the media houses concerned to stop such activities right away and create a conducive environment for journalists to help them carry out their work smoothly.

It also decided to recommend to the government to stop services and facilities provided by the state to media houses if they still refused to stop such activities.
