Squatters withdrew protest

PATHLAIYA: Pathalaiya section of Mahendra Highway obstructed by the Squatters resumed from Tuesday evening. Representative of Maoists and the squatters agreed to resume the highway after the five points agreement with the local Administration in a meeting held at Central Regional Armed Police Force Rudra Bahani Pathaliya. Chief District Officer Kailashnath Kharel said that they agreed to provide compensation to the deceased family, treatment to the injured and provide security to their settlement, among others.

Three squatters were killed when a truck ran over them on Sunday Night while they were staging a sit-in protest on Simara of Tribhuwan Highway. Devimaya Phuya, 45, Setimaya Pariyar, 11, and Sugum Moktan, 10, were killed in the incident. Four others were injured in the incident. An unidentified group had thrashed the squatters and torched some of their huts after entering their settlement on Friday night. They had obstructed the Highway since then.

Squatters have been residing in the Land of Fromer king Gyanendra's sister Shanti singh's land which was captured by the Maoists in November of last year.
