Statues vandalised

Pokhara, May 1:

Cadres of the Young Communist League (YCL) vandalised the statue of late king Prithvi Narayan Shah at Prithvi Chowk in Pokhara today. The YCL cadres had arrived at the Chowk to attend the first Kaski district conference of the Maoist organisation.

A report from Butwal said the Maoists pulled down the statue of late king Birendra at Chauraha, the junction of Siddhartha and Mahendra highways, today. Maoist cadres, workers and students dragged the statue around the city. Of the four statues of kings in Butwal, only one of late king Birendra at the Peace Park remains intact now, administrative officer of Butwal municipality, Krishna Prasad Gyawali, said.
