Statute amendment indispensable: Yadav

Bhairahawa, December 10

Deputy Prime Minister and Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Upendra Yadav today said that it had become urgent to amend the constitution.

Speaking during the inauguration of a human rights-related national conference held by Nepal Bar Association and Nepal Bar Association’s 46th Executive Council meeting held in Butwal today, Yadav said his ministry was committed to forming a high-level team for amending the charter.

“I’m not speaking with any political bias. We need inclusiveness, not political interference, in our legal system to ensure free judicial performance,” said Yadav, expressing concern about the lack of trust in the judiciary and the controversies surrounding appointment of justices.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Justice Cholendra Shamsher JBR urged justices not to issue orders or verdicts under pressure or at the behest of anyone.

“I hereby today urge you not to do anything that will tarnish your image as well as the image of the judiciary. Don’t listen to what people say outside. Do your job as per the law and standard procedure,” he told justices.
