Statute as per 16-point pact: Khanal

JHAPA, July 19

Senior CPN-UML leader Jhalanath Khanal on sunday said that his party was committed to issue the new constitution as per the spirit of the 16-point agreement among the parties.

Speaking at a programme organised by Press Chautari Jhapa chapter in Birtamod, Khanal said federalism with demarcation and naming of province would be finalised after consulting experts and academicians. He said he was in favour of federalism with demarcation and naming of provinces in the new constitution.

“It will be decided after a massive discussion as it is a technical matter,” he said.

Khanal said the much-awaited constitution would be issued soon.

“No force can obstruct its promulgation as the CA has been working very hard on it,” he informed.

Responding to a query, Khanal said the constitution draft has been disseminated across the country through different mediums.

“The constitution draft may have reached the people, I don’t think that it is scarce,” he added.

Khanal assured that his party was in favour of a press-friendly constitution and complete press freedom. “The new statute will be a press-friendly constitution,” he assured.
