Kathmandu, January 28:

The Patan Appellate Court today issued a stay order on production and marketing of remix songs of Open International copied from several Nepali singers. Responding to a writ petition filed by Dhruba Raj Khadka who had claimed copy rights for producing several songs of Ram Thapa, Bharati Upadhayaya, Tirtha Kumari and Dhruba Khadka, the court issued the stay order against its production and marketing.

A division bench of judges Nanda Raj Adhikary and Govinda Kumar Upadhayaya issued the order to the company asking it not to produce remix songs copied from popular traditional songs like —mai chhori sundari kasori bharun pani, and others — illegally. The writ petitioner had recently moved the Appellate Court claiming that the company had copied traditional songs and turned them into remix songs without having copy rights.
